Cubs donate money to Dominican Republic community

Last week Cubs players Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Marmol joined Hall of Famers to announce a $20,000 contribution to community projects in the Dominican Republic. The announcement was made at the Cubs' Dominican Academy in Boca Chica. The team Charities presented the contribution and done through the Major League Baseball Dominican Development Alliance and the U.S. Agency for International Development. The money will support expansion of a surgical recovery room in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and some other educational initiatives.

"Chicago Cubs Charities is proud to support the Major League Baseball Dominican Development Alliance to help in its work to improve the lives of children and families in the Dominican Republic," said Mike Lufrano, senior vice president of community affairs for the Cubs. Funds were raised at the Second Annual Rooters Ball on Sept. 2 at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse. Did they wear the cubs jerseys when they attend the program?
